What's Coming UP??
Hello Mill Shadow...Here are some things to be looking forward to in the coming weeks...
We will be doing 2 more Stake-wide Orders...First Aid Kits & SPICES! Be looking for order forms...I will send them out when I get them.
Also, our next Mill DATE to do our own MILL work and stock up on our own food storage in SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 22nd AT 11 am. Fill out your order forms and get them to be by November 12th...AND I PROMISE to get the orders there on time. :) :) :)
And coming up SOON...OCTOBER 8th is our Ward Mill Assignment from 7:45 - noon. If you have not signed up and want to, just email me (megansbunch@yahoo.com) or talk to me or sign up at church. And if you did sign up, don't forget!!

Chocolate Time & Mill Date...
The OLYMPICS may be OVER, but hey! don't fret...get some sleep and celebrate because...
ALSO, The Mill Shadow Ward has a reserve date to go to the Mill and fill our VERY OWN orders. Click HERE to get your order form, click on "Home Storage Order Form - United States", print it out, fill it out, and then turn it into ME by SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 7th! Then you go to our very own Mill up the street on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17th at 7 pm and fill your order and pay. Of course, you can turn them into the box outside my house (there are also blank forms in there) or give them to me when you see me.
There you are. SIMPLE! How can you NOT do this??? YOU have NO excuse NOT to be GETTING your YEAR'S SUPPLY!!! GOOOOO!

Youth Activity - 72 Hour Food & Hygiene Kits
These poor kids were in my garage...look how happy they are to serve!!! Hey! We fed them root beer floats after!
Check out the AMAZING job that our youth and leaders did in putting together 300 Food Kits and 150 Hygiene Kits to help our ward with their 72 Hour kits! Thank you SOOOOO much to all of you who helped. We got them put together, sealed AND delivered in about 2 hours. Great work everyone and a VERY special thank you to Holly Jessop and Natalie Dupaix who like me ran around getting all the supplies so we could put them all together...woo hoo you!!! The Mill Shadow Ward is MORE prepared than EVER!

What to Do During an Earthquake...
My mother sent me this great guideline for what to do during an earthquake and you know what they say...ALWAYS listen to your mother (or MY mother in this case). A good read...Could be a good FHE subject! The kids would love the idea of a drill. For a more in depth read from FEMA where my dear mom got the info click HERE.
What to Do During an Earthquake
Stay as safe as possible during an earthquake. Be aware that some earthquakes are actually foreshocks and a larger earthquake might occur. Minimize your movements to a few steps to a nearby safe place and stay indoors until the shaking has stopped and you are sure exiting is safe.
If indoors
- DROP to the ground; take COVER by getting under a sturdy table or other piece of furniture; and HOLD ON on until the shaking stops. If there isn’t a table or desk near you, cover your face and head with your arms and crouch in an inside corner of the building.
- Stay away from glass, windows, outside doors and walls, and anything that could fall, such as lighting fixtures or furniture.
- Stay in bed if you are there when the earthquake strikes. Hold on and protect your head with a pillow, unless you are under a heavy light fixture that could fall. In that case, move to the nearest safe place.
- Use a doorway for shelter only if it is in close proximity to you and if you know it is a strongly supported, loadbearing doorway.
- Stay inside until shaking stops and it is safe to go outside. Research has shown that most injuries occur when people inside buildings attempt to move to a different location inside the building or try to leave.
- Be aware that the electricity may go out or the sprinkler systems or fire alarms may turn on.
- DO NOT use the elevators.
If outdoors
- Stay there.
- Move away from buildings, streetlights, and utility wires.
- Once in the open, stay there until the shaking stops. The greatest danger exists directly outside buildings, at exits, and alongside exterior walls. Many of the 120 fatalities from the 1933 Long Beach earthquake occurred when people ran outside of buildings only to be killed by falling debris from collapsing walls. Ground movement during an earthquake is seldom the direct cause of death or injury. Most earthquake-related casualties result from collapsing walls, flying glass, and falling objects.
If in a moving vehicle
- Stop as quickly as safety permits and stay in the vehicle. Avoid stopping near or under buildings, trees, overpasses, and utility wires.
- Proceed cautiously once the earthquake has stopped. Avoid roads, bridges, or ramps that might have been damaged by the earthquake.
If trapped under debris
- Do not light a match.
- Do not move about or kick up dust.
- Cover your mouth with a handkerchief or clothing.
- Tap on a pipe or wall so rescuers can locate you. Use a whistle if one is available. Shout only as a last resort. Shouting can cause you to inhale dangerous amounts of dust.

Baking Bread

Yum...nothing like the smell of baking bread...
Our very own Reed Neubert gave me this recipe (via Candace Winkelman) and I baked bread today for the VERY first time. I know. I know. I am the Food Storage Specialist! I should know how to do these things. NOPE! Not me sister (& brother)! I am a newbie like a lot of you. I even ground up my very own wheat! Now THAT is progress. My mother should be VERY proud!
Here is the recipe if you are curious. It is oh so tasty and I hope not a secret:
Reed’s Bread:
Grind 7 cups wheat. (Really you have to grind it up for the freshest bread) In a small cereal bowl put:
1/2 c hot water
2 T yeast
1T sugar
In a large mixing bowl (like a Kitchen Aid or Bosch):
5 c hot water
7 cups flour (wheat)
Mix for 2 minutes
Add 2 T salt
2/3 c oil
2/3 c honey
Mix in brief surges. Mix until all combined, about 2 minutes.
Add another cup flour and scrape edges, mix for another 2 minutes.
Wait until yeast reaches top of cereal bowl (or close) and add yeast, surge in, mix for 1 min. Add 3 cups flour, mix for 10 minutes. Check consistency. You may need to add more flour so it won't be sticky.
Spray Pam in 3 pans and on counter. Dump out dough and knead. Divide into 1/3. Put into trays. Let rise for 30 min or so. Heat oven to 350. Bake @ 350 for 29 minutes.
